You don’t have to invest in a remodel to enhance your home
You love your reality shows, especially the home improvement ones. When they are going to ‘flip’ a home, it always seems like they need to gut it first. They tear the place apart. You see how much progress is allowed as a result. Your own home can use a few changes, but it is structurally sound and a remodel is not cost efficient or even necessary.
There are, however, a couple of things you can do to make the place more pleasing to the eye. And that’s what it’s all about, isn’t it? We all just want a home that is comfortable, and it helps if it is visually appealing.
If you want a change for a room, something to help improve its look, there’s an old standby you can count on. Strategically make use of pillowcases and blankets. Change the styles of them for the bedrooms. Toss a blanket over a chair to give it an entirely different look – especially if it is an uninspired piece of furniture to begin with. Pillows allow for decorative touches and for guests to choose which best provide the support they may need. They’re a great way to make a room more fanciful without spending fancy money. Pick colorful designs unique to your taste for a nice personal touch.
Just as easy is revising your wall décor. A large painting or even a specialty mirror to be hung can provide a dramatically new stylish look. If you’re like everyone else, you have a budget that requires your respect. So, check out thrift stores for great deals. You may even frequent dollar, discount and wholesale stores in the hopes of coming across a otherwise hidden treasure. You’ll never know what you’ll find in stock in some of these places. There’s new stuff coming in everyday, you’re likely to find an excellent piece of vintage art or newly framed prints of recent creative properties, such as those for movies, sports teams, music, etc… whatever works for you – that’s all that matters. Someone else will always disagree with design choices but it’s the selfish truth that we prepare ourselves and our environment to make us as comfortable as possible.
It may be a little more extreme than what you are hoping for, but painting your walls will give new life to your home. It’s no different from painting your kitchen cabinets… a little practice and you’ll be painting like a pro in no time. If you currently deal with fading, staining, cracked paint or other related adverse factors you’re probably right to want to do something pro-active about it. There is nothing good about bleak or unattractive rooms. You may consider paint and other tools that may best provide a desired image. Often, a new coat of paint is all that’s really needed to make a room appear warmer and brighter. A completely new color, a profound change of pace, may make your rooms suddenly cheery and bright. Explore your options – a new fresh look can be obtained in the course of just a few hours! With all this painting, you might even be tempted to paint the exterior of your home.
Of course you’ll need to have the right tools necessary for whatever modifications you choose to undertake. If you’re hiring a contractor you’re free to let him to do all the work, if you are doing it yourself don’t go cheap on the necessary tools. It’s not a bad idea to do a pros and cons list and weigh whether you should DIY or hire a contractor. Be wary when purchasing second hand tools. It’s an area that’s a little shady when it comes to bargain hunting. You don’t want to buy a tool that’s going to snap in half when pressure is applied to it. The point is to make your job easier, not more difficult. Get the right tools for the right job, and you’ll be fine.
